The Beauty of SL

The Crooked House 07/21/2011

Filed under: FUN! — Chandni Khondji @ 7:55 pm

The posts since start always showed places where you can make awesome pictures, which is really great. But for me ‘The Beauty of SL’ is not only about the visible stunningly beauty of Second Life but also the question “What makes Second Life special?”. One of those places I have learned about today and I’ve had so much fun, that I need to tell you about it.

The Crooked House

This table you see it where it all starts. When you enter and nobody is around, click the red button to reset the build. When it’s done click on the grey object so the House sets focus on you. This is what makes it work, otherwise you’ll hit dead end pretty soon. So when you did that go and go through the rooms.

The Crooked House

Now you might ask what is so special about it. That is the fun part as well. This House moves, well the rooms do. And not only just move around, they also rotate, which will give you a “Where are all the furniture? Oh up there?” moments a couple of times.

The Crooked House

I could have sworn that I was in this Bedroom, entered the kitchen and then into another room and there was the bedroom again but upside down. So.. which of those doors should I take now? The wall-windows? The big green door? The one on the ground?

The Crooked House

Oi, and again those mindgames, I know I was in that room before but I could stand next to that desk.

The Crooked House

I have spent over an hour in that thing, it was just too much fun to leave. I’ve read in an article before that the sim was going to be closed BUT just a moment after, I’ve got the message that someone saved it, and I am so happy about that.

Creative crazy stuff like this is a big part of SL for me, the imagination and wit of places like that is a big part of what makes Second Life beautiful to me. With that I’m sending a huge thank you to all the creators on the grid bringing in their ideas and make it all fun for us :)

You can preview it here on youtube if you can’t imagine it yet.

While I was looking for a desert place for my latest blogpost I happened to stumble into the Afghanistan Museum and wanted to share a bit more about it with you.

It all starts at those gates. Enter and enjoy.

As I looked around I got surprised by how much information they share about the country, people, customs and more.

There are hidden doors to teleport around to places you won’t reach otherwise and much more.

I’ve learned quite a bit and can only recommend a visit :)

Kingdom of Sand 03/15/2011

Today I did something I used to do more often in the old days. I open my “For Pictures” Landmark folder, close my eyes, scroll and double-click, opening my eyes wondering where I landed.

Today this Landmark-Roulette brought me to a Sim called “Kingdom of Sands”. What I did not know about this place was, that it is a Role Play Sim. In my humble opinion a very well made and stunning one. It has a wonderful Arabic, Moroccan atmosphere surrounded by the desert. I could not make as many pictures as I would have loved to show you. So you will have to visit yourself to see it all :)

Kingdom of Sand

At the landing point you will be able to get a visitor titler, this titler is valid for 3 days after that you need to get a new one. Please wear it while you explore the sim, if you are not interested into being dragged into the Role Play. The dress-code is either something fitting to the setting or if you do not have anything and just want to visit anyway, muted colors and a not too modern design is encouraged.

Kingdom of Sand

This place is really beautiful, I’m surprised I have not been there earlier, most certainly I will return to explore some more. :)

Last night I was visiting a place my best friend has been showing me and I fell in love right away. At the landing point you’re going to have the choice between 5 different settings you can visit.

The Beach, The Village, The Forest, The Stage and the Edge. The following pictures will show you just a little part of those settings, you have to see it for yourself because no picture can do them justice.

I am sure I will use “Garden of Dreams” a lot for future pictures.

Insilico 02/23/2011

For many people who know me that is not news but I am, among other things, a huge Sci-Fi-Fan. Total Geek and proud of it. So it was not surprising that sooner or later I wanted to shoot some Futuristic Science Fiction Pictures. That is how I stumbled over this place. A friend of mine told me about it and each time I want to do that certain kind of Pictures I find myself back there.

Insilico

Insilico consists of 5 Sims full of pure Sci-Fi-Geek pleasure. My favourite part is the one you can see on the first two pictures. It is darkish, but also has bright corners, the bluish glow, the neon signs, holographic displays. It makes my heart beat faster.

Insilico

This place is in the East Sim and i love the mystic feel of it with the light shooting out of the top of the pyramid.

The last picture shows a little different side of Insilico. This is the North Sim and as soon as I saw it one word popped into my mind “Mars”, the Red Planet. Okay next to this awesome Doctor Who episode “The Waters of Mars”… but thankfully i have not seen any strange people around who spit and shoot water out of their fingers.

Insilico

And although Insilco are Cyberpunk and Sci-Fi Roleplaying sims, I did not have any trouble to just be there doing pictures or filming without having any Roleplay that I had to participate in. It seems to be pretty liberal with visitors, which i like.

So if you are looking for a Sci-Fi Sim, please take a closer look at Insilico. Every time I come here I am in awe again and can’t seem to stop making pictures and enjoy the futuristic creativity around me.

Empyreal Dreams 02/21/2011

For my very first post I will show you a location I did not know about myself until recently. But since then I fell in love with the creativity and beauty at “Empyreal Dreams“.

Ariel Wingtips and Remington Aries are the owners and creators of this stunning place. Based on and inspired by famous poems and novels they create visualisations of those. The sets are perfect for pictures suited for many moods and occassions. I will show you 3 of the sets.

The first set is Les Miserables. As soon as one takes the teleport one stands in the middle of a rainy French town. But do not only look at the pebbles at the walls of the houses, also look up where the rain comes from, you might be surprised.

Empyreal Dreams - Miserables

Another very powerful set is inspired by “The Ancient Mariner”. The raging storm and the remains of a wrecked ship gives me personally the feeling that I’m stranded right where one lands. It’s simply stunning.

Empyreal Dreams - Mariner

Last but not least I show you a set inspired by one of my favourite poems “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe. A dark goth-ish set, with beautiful glowing highlights and you can walk on time to see it all from a whole different perspective.

Empyreal Dreams - Raven

The build I did not show you was “The bluebell” and the team has another build under construction that hopefully will be revealed soon. I can’t wait for it to go public, it’s beautiful ;)

Don’t miss this great collection of creativity and imagination. This is too awesome to miss.

Hello out there! 02/20/2011

Filed under: A word from the Author — Chandni Khondji @ 11:05 pm

A while ago I started, after a while of being a hermit, to leave my piece of land and explore Second Life. I found a lot of places that I love to visit just because they are awesome, well made or tons of fun. Others are brilliant for pictures and I visit them over and over again.

In a time when so many people complain about lag, crashes and how bad SL became, I think we should not forget the Beauty of SL. And I want to share it with you. I am sure there are many many more places than those I will show you, but I need somewhere to start, right?

So let’s have fun, be bedazzled, awestruck and just fascinated. I do not have the best graphics card, so you won’t see shadows and stuff. But I think that will be fine

Enjoy.
